Fattoria Villa Ligi “Grifoglietto”
Pergola Aleatico Superiore, Italy | 2022
Since 1985, Francesco Tonelli has devoted himself to preserving and practicing the vine-growing traditions of Pergola, a small hamlet in northern Marche. He helped establish the Pergola DOC, safeguarding the rare local variety known as Aleatico—or Vernaccia Rossa di Pergola—and his dedication laid the foundation for what would become a family legacy. Today, his son Stefano, a trained oenologist, gently stewards this vision, blending scientific precision with heartfelt respect for their heritage.
“Grifoglietto” originates from a single, cherished vineyard—over 50 years old—planted on clay-rich soil mingled with limestone, at an elevation of approximately 340 meters above sea level. With southeast exposure and cool, constant breezes, the site helps slow the vine’s growth, concentrating flavors while reducing disease risk and enabling eco-conscious farming.
In the glass, the 2022 “Grifoglietto” shines with a deep ruby hue tinged with purple. Aromas are initially reserved yet compelling—delicate notes of rose, wild strawberries, and raspberries gradually emerge. On the palate, this wine is dry, lifted, and graceful: balanced acidity, whisper-fine tannins, and a harmonious structure carrying a refined finish. Pair this with a charcuterie and cheese plate, herb crusted roasted pork, or mushroom risotto.
