Hello Le Midi subscribers!

With October halfway gone and this Indian Summer starting to recede, we are diving head first into our Fall by-the-glass menu, new cocktails from our dearest Steven, and some upgrades to our food menu. We cannot wait to show off what we have in store for our beloved customers.

As we slowly tiptoe into holiday season, don’t forget that we now take reservations at our communal table for parties up to ten guests (twelve if you like to get real cozy). We are happy to pre-select bottles and menu items for you so you can just sit back and relax while we do all of the hard work for you! We quickly sold out of all wine tastings and wine clubs for the month, so thank you to those who continue to show interest and be sure to keep your eye out for some amazing tasting events and a killer lineup for wine club in November.

Swerwer “Rooi-Groen”, Skin-Contact Semillon

I mean, what better month to feature an orange wine than the month of October? The good news is that this doesn’t taste like pumpkin.
(sorry pumpkin spice lovers!)

Swerwer’s Rooi-Groen Semillon is a unique expression of Swartland’s terroir and a phenomenal example of one South Africa’s newest winemakers, Jasper Wickens. Jasper has a minimalist, instinctive approach and is known for capturing the essence of the land he works letting the grapes guide the process, producing wines that are as true to their origin as possible. This Semillon, a product of old bush vines from rugged Swartland soils, presents a rare and intriguing profile.

Traditionally a white grape more famously recognized in Bordeaux blends and old-vines in Australia, this particular Semillon has undergone a natural mutation, developing pinkish-red pigments over time, earning the local nickname Rooi-Groen ("red-green"). The use of skin contact, which is unconventional in white winemaking, results in the wine's copper color and light tannin structure, adding depth and complexity to its fresh, vibrant character. This is a great orange/ramato-styled wine for beginners who are testing out the waters of skin-contact white wines.

In the glass, RooiGroen offers a hodgepodge of aromas and flavors. Its nose is filled with notes of ginger, peach, orange blossom, and a hint of spice. On the palate, the wine reveals layers of nectarine, fig, and red apple, all balanced by a subtle tannic grip that carries through to the finish. Its copper hue and tannic texture set this Semillon apart from all others, offering a fresh perspective on a variety that has evolved with the unique conditions of South Africa's Swartland!
