Champagne Mouzon-Leroux is one of our newest additions that we are so very proud to have grace our list.
Sébastien Mouzon stands at the forefront of a new generation of Champagne grower-producers, embodying the ethos of innovation and sustainability. As the 9th generation to cultivate grapes in the historic village of Verzy, Sébastien took the reins officially in 2008 with his inaugural vintage debuting in 2009. His vision for Champagne production is firmly rooted in organic and biodynamic practices, reflecting a profound respect for the land and its natural rhythms. In the undulating hills of Verzy on the Montagne de Reims, Sébastien meticulously tends to over 50 distinct plots spread across just over 7 hectares of vineyards. Here, the terroir tells a story of three famed hills, each imparting its unique character to the wines. From chalky soils ideal for Chardonnay on the eastern hill to the rich silex-laden terrain reminiscent of a historic flint quarry, Sébastien's vineyards reflect a rich tapestry of diversity. Pinot Noir reigns supreme, comprising nearly sixty percent of the plantings, while Chardonnay (alongside lesser-known varietals such as Arbanne, Petit Meslier, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Gris) adds depth and complexity to his cuvées. Among Sébastien's distinguished creations is his “L’Atavique” Extra-Brut that we are serving. Comprising 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay sourced exclusively from Verzy Grand Cru vineyards, this champagne is an incredible powerful blend. With its lean yet textured profile, l’Atavique shows robust aromas of dark fruit, sweet herbs, and subtle smokiness—a reflection of the unique flinty soils of Verzy. Certified organic and practicing biodynamic, this cuvée embodies Sébastien's unwavering commitment to producing wines of purity, elegance, and finesse. All the things we look for in great champagne!
