LE MIDI UPDATES

Hello Le Midi subscribers!

Two new seasonal aperitifs have hit our list and they are wonderful. If you like either scotch-based drinks, or more savory, nutty cocktails, you can’t miss the new Bobby Burns and Bamboo additions to warm you on a chilly night.

To pair with these drinks, you must try our new smoked duck prosciutto from Smoking Goose Meatery that we finish with fresh ground black pepper. The amount of flavor in one bite is guaranteed to give you pause - until you quickly go back for another bite!

We will get all of our delicious items wrapped and bagged up for you to easily open and display for your table. Leave the hard work to us so you can relax and enjoy your day.

All of our November wine tastings sold out quickly, but don’t let that stop you from dropping in on any of those Wednesdays just to relax with a drink and a bite. Though the communal table is full, we leave all of our other tables open for walk-ins.

We take pride in showcasing the exceptional table wines emerging from Portugal, always eager to uncover more hidden gems from this “underdog” of European wine regions. Our selection process is thorough, ensuring we highlight only the finest bottles to our beloved guests. Among our standouts is the Dão winemaker António Madeira, whose wines we have long admired. Recently, we added his remarkable “Tinto” bottling to our by-the-glass program, a wine crafted with a complex field blend of 20 to 30 grape varieties that embodies the terroir’s unique characteristics. Dominant varietals like Alfrocheiro Preto and Touriga Nacional lend structure and richness to the blend, aged for 18 months in used French oak and further refined with a stainless steel finish, striking a delicate balance between oak nuances and fresh fruit vibrancy.

António’s work embodies the potential of the Dão and its storied vineyards nestled in the granite-rich soils of Serra da Estrela. French-born of Portuguese descent, he has explored the Dão since 2010, discovering old vine plots that carry a rich viticultural heritage. In 2011, he restored a neglected 50-year-old vineyard to create his first wine. This wine is his flagship bottling evoking notes of dark fruit, earth, and spice, its fine acidity and tannins imparting a sense of freshness akin to cru Beaujolais.

António emphasizes minimal intervention and his gentle aging approach in neutral oak barrels ensures a delicate texture and refined tannins without compromising the wine’s inherent brightness. The layered complexity and lively acidity make this red refreshingly drinkable, aptly described as a “vin de soif” or thirst-quencher, versatile enough to enjoy with or without food, and shows beautifully when chilled.
